Find a state park for camping

“Camping available” is the start of a question. Choose the type of site, how you reach it and what services it has before filling the weekend with activities.

The category matters

Shades lists non-electric, backpack and canoe camping categories. Those are not interchangeable. A family arriving by car should check access and facilities for the exact reservation.

Match all three names

Keep the park, campground or loop, and campsite in your notes. Check the site’s size, equipment rules and arrival instructions in the official booking system. A vehicle pass may be separate from the campsite reservation.

Leave a manageable first day

Make arrival and camp setup the main task, then add a nearby permitted activity if it fits. An overnight trip does not need a full hiking day on both sides of the reservation.
