Taking a dog to a state park: check the specific area

A pet-friendly room is not permission to use every trail or beach. Check the rules for the exact part of the park you want to visit.

Keep lodging and trail rules separate

Natural Bridge’s official guidance restricts pets on most preserve trails. Parts of Cumberland Falls also have preserve restrictions. A cabin or room policy does not override those area-specific rules.

Check beaches and programs independently

Indiana Dunes State Park does not allow dogs on its beach. Carter Caves has separate cave-tour rules. Choose an allowed outing before arriving instead of assuming a general park policy covers every experience.

Ask about your actual plan

Give the park the route, area or program name when a rule is unclear. Service-animal provisions and pet policies are distinct; use current official guidance rather than treating a short summary as a complete statement.

Choose a plan that still works

If your main feature is off-limits to pets, choose a different permitted activity or park arrangement. Do not make the plan depend on leaving an animal unattended or finding an informal route around the restriction.
