State-park planning

Indiana Dunes State Park is not the whole national park

Indiana Dunes State Park and nearby national-park destinations have different official information and arrangements. Use the full destination name for booking, navigation and rules.

Start with the agency

Indiana DNR publishes the state park’s official page and maps. The National Park Service publishes information for Indiana Dunes National Park. A search result using only “Indiana Dunes” can lead to either system.

Match the campground and entrance

Use the state-park listing when booking its campground or navigating to its entrance. Do not transfer an admission instruction, reservation or activity description from a nearby national-park site without checking that it applies.

Check the specific activity

The state park has its own beach and pet guidance. Choose your intended area and consult its current official rules. Sharing a Lake Michigan setting does not make every location interchangeable.

Keep the distinction in your notes

Save the exact park name, agency, entrance and planned activity together. Our comparisons distinguish the state-park destinations in this collection rather than treating every dune or shore location as one giant itinerary.
